Maurizio Zecchin has more than 30 years of experience in the commodity trading business, having worked in London, Berlin, Paris, and Edmonton with clients from all over the globe and suppliers across all continents. He has established himself as a reliable partner among larger companies and continually meets his customers‘ requests while creating and nurturing contacts with key suppliers. He is now in the process of consolidating his businesses into a new structure based in Zurich, Switzerland, from where he will develop the business to become a boutique trading company in the non-ferrous markets and investing across the value chain.

Personal History

Maurizio was born in Edmonton, Canada, and after a few years, the family moved back to Italy, where he was brought up and finished his education. He studied Economics in Venice, Italy, and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in 1984. While working on a Canadian development project in 1986, he received the Award for International Trade from the Government of Alberta. He later continued his studies to complement his degree by studying International Finance at the Canterbury University, UK, where he received a Doctor of Business Administration in Finance in 1996.

Entrepreneurial Start

In the 1980s, Maurizio Zecchin went to London to start trading in copper when the volumes for his family’s company began to grow, and they saw an opportunity to get better prices by buying larger quantities. Based in London from 1985 to 2006, he established himself in the commodity trading business, especially in pre-insulated copper pipes and LME (London Metal Exchange) standard copper cathodes in the European market, acting through his own companies: International Copper Corporation Ltd., General Metals Ltd., and RawMat Ltd. He also arranged financing of transactions through his company Hexton Ltd.Maurizio Zecchin also created companies in other European countries to serve those markets and be closer to his customers. With ICS International Coppers Services SA based in Paris, France, he served the French market from 1995 to 1999, and in Berlin, Germany, from 1993 to 1998 with Eurocopper Deutschland GmbH. From 2005 to 2009, he also did business in Edmonton, Canada, in real estate development, various investments, and some financial consulting.Throughout these years, he has created long-lasting relationships with key suppliers and customers who have stayed with him, recognizing his reliable and straightforward approach to business.

Refocus for further growth

In 2010, Maurizio Zecchin decided to refocus his business activities and consolidate his companies into a new structure based in Zurich, Switzerland. This strategic move aimed to streamline operations and position the company for further growth in the non-ferrous metals market. By leveraging his extensive experience, network of contacts, and industry knowledge, he plans to develop the business into a boutique trading company that offers personalized services and tailored solutions to its clients.The new structure will allow Maurizio Zecchin to invest across the value chain, from sourcing raw materials to delivering finished products, while maintaining the flexibility and responsiveness that have been the hallmarks of his entrepreneurial career. Family History

Maurizio Zecchin comes from a family whose roots are in the veneto (ltaly), that has a long industrial tradition dating as far back as 1553, where the Zecchin family has a record for being specialized in the processing of non-terrous metals such as the manutacturing of copper and gold coins (Sequin (ltal.: Zecchino) = Ducat, Venetian gold coin).
Whilst working for his family’s company from 1980 to 1982 he managed the copper stock for the production of copper pipes. Through this experience he acquired the basics ot the trading business when he started buying copper and other raw materials for the lactory. Throughout his whole business career, Maurizio Zecchin has nurtured and continued this lamily tradition.
